The Peak Completes

Published on 23-11-2009 by Skyscrapernews.com
The latest development that is part of the emerging jigsaw of regeneration around London's Victoria Station in the City of Westminster has been officially completed.

At only 9 floors above ground, The Peak may not literally live up to its name with the scale such that it would be lost in the City of London, but the joint venture between CIS and Heron International, the developer of the Heron Tower, still manages to have a landmark effect thanks to the key site it sits on.

Containing 11,280m square metres of space it stands to the immediate east of Victoria Station. With 10,400 square metres offices with the other 1,780 square metres of space being retail taken by HBOS, it occupies a prominent position overlooking the busy bus station of Terminal Place.

To the north of the building, it's bounded by the curving streets of Wilton Road and Vauxhall Bridge Road. The project responds in a similar manner by curving around the boundary of the site creating a distinctive frontage. The curves are continued with the vaulted canopy above the roof that also juts out like a baseball cap giving some measure of solar shading to the recessed fully glazed upper floor.

The Peak is just the latest of a number of office buildings with grade A spaced designed by Sheppard Robson that have been recently completed including the Blade in Reading, another mid-rise building but on that occasion it's one boosted by a substantial spire.
